What and why?

With a Food Safety Management System you demonstrate predictability of your internal food handling processes. An effective management system will help prevent unsafe food or drinks from reaching your customers.

Addressing food safety is about implementing internal processes that focus on the critical points in your internal processes. It helps you establish the necessary routines to make sure that customers are safe when they eat and drink your products. An efficient Food Safety Management System ensures that your employees are clear about who is responsible for doing what, when, how, why, and where.

There are several methods and tools to help with the implementation of a Food Safety Management System, such as HACCP, Good Hygiene Practice (GHP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Together with a Quality Management System, e.g. ISO 9001, they form the basis for an overall Food Safety Management System.

With a Food Safety Management System:

  • You can identify your food safety risks and implement necessary routines.

  • You can ensure that you conform to relevant legislation.

  • You can cut costs related to waste and recalls.

  • You can begin continual improvement of your food safety routines.

What standards can you be certified to?
To get on the road to certification, you should begin by reading about the food safety standard HACCP.
