SCC is a third party certification system developed for organisations that outsource (contract) work. It was originally designed by and for the petrochemical industry together with DNV. Later it became acknowledged as an accredited public standard used by a number of industries. Today principals often require that contractors working for them have a valid SCC 2000/03 certificate. This is especially true for the chemical industry.
Demonstrating your safety performance
SCC is a tool to assess the safety management system and safety results achieved by the contractor. Application of SCC is a means to improve the safety performance of organisations engaged in the execution of hazardous work. The SCC certificate provides confidence that hazardous work is executed by competent organisations with skilled employees, professional safety management, and a strong commitment towards safety.
Safeguarding lives
Improving the safety performance of the contracting industry, and reducing the number of plant incidents, will safeguard lives and the surrounding environments from damage. This makes SCC certification an advantage to the principal and contractor, in addition to the individual employees and society at large.
To benefit from European harmonisation and to ensure consistent implementation, the system is operated under international certification and accreditation rules (e.g. EN 45012).
Where do I go from here?
For third party certification, you need to implement an effective management system that complies with the requirements of the standard. The first step is to get on the road to certification.
