The Houston Approval Center hosted a technology seminar that was attended by over 100 engineers from local oil and gas companies. Experts from DNV Energy’s Høvik and Houston offices instructed during the two-day seminar.

“We hosted this seminar in order to respond to the need for more in depth understanding of buckling, fatigue and hydrodynamic issues relating to floaters. Participants were also encouraged to exchange knowledge about DNV’s recent developments in codes and practices related to these areas,” explains Santhosh Kumar Mony, head of the Houston Approval Center.
He continues: “The Houston Approval Center has a reputation among locally-based oil and gas companies as an independent verification body for non-DNV classed vessels. Several of these companies have large pools of new and junior employees, so getting them familiar with the DNV codes, standards and practices, provides them with valuable knowledge of a complex industry.”
Technology Seminar 2009
Plans are currently underway to host a similar seminar in 2009. The topics are likely to be Arctic operations and LNG.
“There is anticipation amongst several of the Houston-based oil companies of an extension of drilling and production operations to the Arctic. There is also a considerable resurgence of LNG projects. These two developments are becoming increasingly important areas of interest to our local client base, and so the Houston Approval Center aims to support our clients with DNV expertise,” concludes Santhosh Kumar Mony.
