Says James Huang, Regional Marketing Manager for Greater China: “A diverse team is behind the contract.”
China Shipping Group is one of world’s ten largest shipping companies and the second largest in China. Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. is currently the largest shipbuilder in China.
“The achievement of bringing these vessels into our class is the result of our great efforts of building long term relationships with the two giants in the industry, as well as the close cooperation with our partner CCS and undoubtedly our great teamwork internally,” says DNV Maritime Regional Manager for Greater China Bjørn K. Haugland.
“DNV has from the very beginning worked proactively and systematically towards all the parties involved,” says James Huang, regional marketing manager for Greater China, who has also acted as the coordinator for this project. “A diverse team is behind the contract. Our great teamwork has involved not only the key resources in the region, but also the senior staff at our head office.
“We cannot mention all, but our colleagues in Dalian, Hong Kong, Guangzhou and our maritime service centre in Shanghai should be highlighted. Ying Hui from MSC Shanghai ran the workshop for the design house, the shipyard and the owner with our Guangzhou station manager Chi Shao Guang and our expert from the marketing department in the head office, Ulf Freudendahl,” says James Huang.

More and more to DNV class
The contract for the four VLOCs is worth USD 455 million, and deliveries are expected between August 2011 and March 2012, according to China Shipping Group. In addition to the four VLOCs, China Shipping Group also will have six very large crude carriers (VLCCs) to DNV class, of which two are in operation and four are on order.
At the end of October 2007, DNV Maritime Region Greater China had secured 194 vessels totalling 16.6 million dwt, with total accumulated order book 387 vessels of 28.4 million dwt. Both figures are records for DNV in the region.
