R&D investments enable us to deliver classification services to our customers with greater value, quality, predictability and meeting the stakeholder expectations to transparency. We also use R&D to develop add-on services through voluntary class notations and consultancy services, in order to meet expectations beyond the core classification.

Developing and maintaining strong competencies in ship hull technology, hydrodynamics, machinery systems, and risk and software technologies continue to be pillars of our long-term technology strategy. We will continue to use R&D as a strategic means of distinguishing DNV as the most capable and relevant classification society.

During the past years, we have focused on two main development platforms as the basis for the continued development of services:

• An integrated ICT platform for consistent, predictable, high-quality design approval and material/component certification, site survey and ship-in-operation surveys.

• Utilising the competence built up over years, to develop services for new ship designs and systems, new trade patterns (including arctic operation), increased efficiency/reduced offhire, and more focus on safety and environmental protection.
