Approval of Manufacturers (AOM) is a qualification scheme for manufacturers of metallic materials. The objective is to verify that the manufacturer can produce specific grades or types of materials that conforms to the DNV Rules.
In order to be approved, the manufacturer must demonstrate and submit documentation to the effect that the necessary manufacturing, testing and inspection facilities are available and supervised by qualified personnel. The manufacturer must also carry out a test programme and submit the results.
The present works approval scheme does not concern management systems, and has therefore nothing to do with ISO 9001. The scheme is rather a technical product approval, quite similar to Type Approval. The works approval does not remove the need for subsequent certification of materials.
Once a manufacturer obtains his works approval, however, a quality system certification may be beneficial for reducing our scope of involvement during material certification, refer Manufacturing Survey Arrangement (MSA).
An Approval of Manufacturer Certificate is valid for 4 years.
The list of approved manufacturers is made available on the DNV Exchange. The site is updated once a week.
