For general information about DNV Type Approval, please see Type Approval.

Type Approval for Non-Metallic Materials
One of our major activities is Type Approval of Non-Metallic Materials, materials intended for use in e.g. hull and superstructures of composite boats/lifeboats/vessels. Other products are pipes and fittings, rudder bearing bushing materials, etc. In addition we offer Type Examination (an approval with basis in other standards than the DNV Rules).

Through testing in accordance with a defined Type Approval Programme, the manufacturer demonstrates that the produced materials or products have properties making it suited for application in DNV classed objects, or for other defined applications.

A Type Approval Certificate is valid for 4 years, but requires follow-up every second year.

The list of type approved materials and products is made available on the DNV Exchange. The site is updated once a week.

Approval Programmes: Relevant approval programmes, nos. 1-501.1 to 1-602.3, are part of the Standards for Certification No. 2.9 and are made available from the DNV Webshop (http://webshop.dnv.com) free of charge: http://exchange.dnv.com/Publishing/TAP/

Type Approval for Welding Consumables
Through comprehensive testing under DNV supervision, the manufacturer demonstrates that the produced consumables give weld connections with properties complying with DNV Rules requirements. Based on compliance with the DNV Rules requirements a Type Approval Certificate will be issued for each specific consumable.

A Type Approval Certificate is valid for 4 years, but requires annual updating.

The list of type approved welding consumables is made available on the DNV Exchange. The site is updated once a week.

Verification Statement for Welding Consumables
Upon request DNV may register alternative trade names and companies under which an approved consumable is marketed. Both the manufacturer and the distributor must submit affidavits certifying that the consumable marketed under the distributor’s own trade name is identical to the approved consumable.

Upon receipt of the mutual affidavits DNV will issue a Verification Statement verifying that the consumable marketed is approved by DNV. Validity of such statement is up to four years on the condition that the manufacturer retains approval of the welding consumable.

Verification Statements are listed together with the Type Approval Certificates.

Type Approval Programme: The relevant approval programme, no. 1-401.1, is part of the Standards for Certification No. 2.9 and is made available from the DNV Webshop (http://webshop.dnv.com) free of charge: http://exchange.dnv.com/Publishing/TAP/
