The International Labour Organisation has adopted the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006. We recommend our customers to start preparing as soon as possible and DNV has services which may assist.
The objective is, in accordance with the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (not entered into force yet), to certify the working and living condition of all ships over 500 GT in international trade.
Our professional inspectors will be situated close to your premises and are available in ports worldwide. We focus on practical compliance.
DNV will provide Maritime Labour Certificate (MLC) for ships.
The Flag State will remain fully responsible implementing and enforcing the Convention through national measures, but may delegate inspection and certification to recognised organisations (RO). We believe that both Flag States and ship owners will benefit from effective one stop inspection through use of DNV as RO.
The MLC certification process will be similar to ISM and ISPS for ships, and the certificate will have 5 years validity and the process will include interim, initial and intermediate inspections. As the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 is not yet in force, the practical DNV handling scheme is not yet decided, but further information may be given at mlc@dnv.com
