The four-day course in Shanghai included a detailed presentation of the new rules followed by hands-on training on rule scantling analysis, fatigue analysis, and finite element cargo hold analysis in Nauticus Hull. Extra focus was put on result analysis and comparison between the new and old hull rules.
“DNV has played a central role in the development of the common structural rules and we are now scaling up our operations in China to assist our clients in implementing the rules for their upcoming hull development projects,” says Bjørn K. Haugland, regional manager for DNV Maritime Greater China.
Nauticus Hull well positioned
Nauticus Hull has been continuously developed for the common structural rules since the joint tanker project (JTP) was started by DNV, Lloyds and ABS in 2003. The software has been frequently used for testing, development and calibration of the new rules. This has put the product in a good position compared to competition, according to Øystein Goksøyr, regional manager for DNV Software in Greater China. As an example, the Korean Yard Association recently decided to use Nauticus Hull exclusively to finish their evaluation of the rules.
Says Øystein Goksøyr; “Nauticus Hull’s modern software platform enables us to deliver front-end software for the new rules way before our competitors. I trust that the high interest for the user course indicates that the shipbuilding industry in China is recognising this.”
The next training course for the new is taking place at the DNV Academy in Dalian October 25-28.
