New detection technologies promise accurate, faster and/or cheaper testing of a number of important factors, including food contaminants and quality. Successful integration of new technology depends on the ability of food producers and the retail sector to understand and utilise the results s in a way that either reduces costs or risk, or preferably both.

Multiple factors determine the success of the integration of new detection technologies in the food chain as a whole. In order to determine the suitability of new technology, successful management of financial and biological risks also demands integration of requirements from HACCP, certification and legislation.

The Biorisk program is developing methods to integrate new technologies into company risk management systems. This includes validation procedures for new technologies and verification that the detection method is valid for use in the system in question.
