Brussels: Technology Outlook 2020 provides a view of the technology solutions for the next decade. DNV’s outlook points at mega-trends analysed on the basis of population, economy, governance, natural resources production and consumption.
Oslo: DNV has been granted extended authorisation by the Swedish Transport Agency to act as a Recognised Organisation providing statutory survey services to Swedish-flagged vessels engaged in international trade. Effective from 1 September 2011, this increased responsibility for DNV has the strong support of the Swedish Shipowners’ Association, Sveriges Redare-Förening.

As the first international certification body DNV has received accreditation in Korea to deliver type and project certification of wind turbines and wind farms. Due to the accreditation from the Dutch Accreditation Council, DNV now has official approval to handle all aspects of the certification work using its local wind experts. This provides a number of advantages to Korean and Asian manufacturers.

Aberdeen: DNV has developed a protocol to ensure diver safety and weld integrity for the most challenging subsea welding jobs where traditional pressure testing is not possible.

Aberdeen: The DNV ‘Technology Outlook 2020’ report presented at Offshore Europe warns that the age of ‘cheap’ oil is coming to an end. With a forecasted increase in global energy demand of 19% by 2020, DNV says the sector will have to push the boundaries to satisfy this need.
Aberdeen: DNV has endorsed Sigma Offshore’s new FPSO turret mooring system that can be installed without drydocking and which uses a fraction of the steel required for traditional turret systems. Suitable for harsh conditions, such as the Arctic, the new technology is expected to significantly reduce installation and operational expenses.
Aberdeen: DNV has developed a rapid, semi-quantitative method for evaluating asset condition, including a prioritisation of risks and works required, for aging onshore and offshore oil and gas facilities. Put to the test in both Africa and Europe, the aim is to support the investment or divestment decisions that often occur when such facilities near the end of their design life.
Aberdeen: DNV has taken Expro’s new AX-S deepwater subsea well intervention system through a feasibility assessment designed to demonstrate the viability of the innovation to stakeholders and investors. AX-S will make well intervention possible without the need for drilling rig or riser system in waters up to 3,000m deep.
Aberdeen: The new, fifth generation Ramform series seismic vessels of PGS is built at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., Japan. The order for two seismic vessels plus two options which was signed in Oslo earlier this year. When completed in 2013 these vessels will be the most technically advanced seismic vessel featuring 3D seismic data acquisition and analysis capability. The vessels will be built to DNV class.
Seattle, WA, USA: DNV has developed HSE procedures for a mid-west utility’s wind operations. For wind farm operators such safety programs keep workers safe, comply with regulations and meet or exceed best practices for hazard management in the wind industry.
The South African president, Jacob Zuma, the Norwegian King Harald, the Norwegian Minister of Oil and Gas, Ola Borten Moe and number of industry players met at DNV today to discuss cooperation and the future for carbon capture and storage (CCS). DNV encourages a close cooperation between stakeholders in order to realize CCS as an industrial opportunity.

DNV signed Friday 12 August an agreement with The Crown Prince and Crown Princess’ Humanitarian Fund to become one of their main partners. The agreement runs for five years.
Oslo, 10 August: today DNV’s summer students presented the results of seven weeks of intense and targeted work with a concept for year-round drilling and exploration offshore north-east Greenland. More than anything their work unfolded a massive need for new technologies, improved standards and increased arctic research. But that’s not all; the students predict that drilling in the Arctic could be up to four times as expensive as drilling in the North Sea.

DNV has released a new guideline for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects. The CO2WELLS guideline is the result of a major joint industry project which brought together upstream operators and power utility companies. Aimed at project developers and authorities, it describes a generic framework process for managing the risks associated with existing wells at carbon dioxide (CO2) storage locations, both onshore and offshore.
Jilin China: One more water and sanitation project supported by DNV has been completed and handed over to the local villagers. Since 2005, DNV has been continuously supporting the water and sanitation projects in Northeastern China by collaborating with the Norwegian and Chinese Red Cross. In total, more than 3000 villagers of 1000 households have benefited from the projects.

Seattle, WA – DNV announces that it has obtained accreditation by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) for power quality testing on wind turbines.

Kjeller, 27 June: IFE, an international research institute for energy and nuclear technology, has been certified by DNV Business Assurance in accordance with the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 international standards.

OSLO: DNV’s sustainability assurance services were put to the test in global research carried out by the independent analyst firm Verdantix. The analysis found DNV to be one of the six providers that lead the global sustainability assurance market.

Russian oil company TNK-BP recently gave the green light for two energy efficiency contracts with DNV’s climate change and environmental services unit in Moscow.

Shanghai: The new generation of 10,000 TEU container vessels contracted by Seaspan represents major improvements in energy efficiency, cargo capacity, operational efficiency and emission reductions. The order for seven 10,000 TEU container vessels plus 18 options is the biggest ever container contract entered into in China. The vessels will be built to DNV class.

SEOUL: On 15 June 2011, DNV signed a MoU with the Korea Finance Corporation (KoFC) to cooperate on verification of the green ships.
