SINGAPORE – DNV Petroleum Services (DNVPS) is pleased to announce that Eirik Andreassen has taken over the position of Managing Director from Tore Morten Wetterhus, who is returning to DNV HQ in Oslo, Norway, to assume the role of Director of Technology & Services at the Governance & Global Development Division.

The management change at DNVPS took effect on Jun 1, 2011. Mr Andreassen, 45, graduated in 1990 with a Master of Science in Marine Structures from the Norwegian Institute of Technology (now the Norwegian University of Science and Technology) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined DNV in 1991. From his previous position as Director of International Affairs, Mr Andreassen brings into DNVPS his extensive background in maritime legislation and policy-making.

“I am excited about the opportunity to lead DNVPS into the future,” says Mr Andreassen. “With our industry network and broad expertise, we can facilitate a more collaborative approach to the sale, purchase and use of marine fuels. I believe all parties in the supply chain can achieve better outcomes by working closer to manage common issues, such as increased regulatory demands, rising costs and operational constraints.”

Mr Andreassen expects to continue with his predecessor’s strategy of aggressive R&D investment and active engagement with DNVPS’ stakeholders to develop effective fuel management practices in the maritime industry.

Mr Wetterhus, 41, begins his new position on Sep 1, 2011. He will be responsible for driving innovation in key technical disciplines; developing and maintaining core services, rules and standards; as well as ensuring operational and service efficiency across the divisions in DNV. Reflecting on his four-year stint at DNVPS, Mr Wetterhus says he has learnt a lot from the company’s fuel experts and clients. He has particularly enjoyed the challenge of transforming DNVPS into a more complete bunker solutions provider. “Given that marine fuel management is a strategic concern for ship operators – in terms of escalating bunker costs, environmental performance and regulatory compliance – I see my experience from DNVPS as highly relevant to my future undertakings.”

Tor Svensen, President of DNV and Chairman of the DNVPS Board, comments on the position changes for Eirik Andreassen and Tore Morten Wetterhus: “This is in keeping with DNV’s policy of exposing our senior managers to different business areas, and at the same time matching the right competences with existing market needs. I am very confident that both Eirik and Tore Morten will do well in their new roles.”
