Monitoring+carbon+assets

Many Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Joint Implementation (JI) and carbon offset projects fail to realise the full potential for carbon revenue, due to incorrect monitoring and reporting of emission reductions. This course provides the knowledge, skills and tools needed for the implementation of efficient emission reduction monitoring.

Efficient emission reduction monitoring requires relevant skills and tools.

This new DNV course provides the basic knowledge on monitoring, reporting and verification of emission reductions. Based on group work, case studies, practical examples and the trainers’ own experience, this course will demonstrate how to monitor emission reductions efficiently.

During the course, participants will get an overview of existing monitoring methodologies and tools for CDM and JI project activities. They will acquire skills to develop monitoring plans in line with approved monitoring methodology requirements. Using realistic cases, participants will analyse common mistakes encountered by DNV during validation and verification of projects.

Particular attention will be given to instrumentation, calibration and other technical aspects that can have significant implications for the accuracy, errors and the uncertainty of emissions data.

The course will explain the basics of GHG data collection/management systems and how to develop a quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) system. Participants will understand the principles of a risk-based approach in verification.

What are the benefits?
Accurate and correct monitoring means:
• Reduced duration and cost of third-party verification
• Timely issuance of carbon credits from the very start of the project implementation

For whom is this relevant?
The main target group is technical staff in charge of designing and or implementing monitoring plans in carbon offset projects.

What will you learn?
During the course, learners will gain knowledge and develop skills that will enable them to:
• Design and implement monitoring plans according to methodologies
• Identify potential monitoring errors
• Assess data quality and data uncertainty in emission monitoring

Requirements
It is recommended that participants have taken part in DNV’s course: Developing carbon offset projects or have practical experience in greenhouse gas issues or environmental auditing experience.

Duration
Three days.

Schedule
So far we have one monitoring carbon assets course scheduled. It will be held in San Francisco, USA (25-27 May). You can sign up for the course through our online registration form.
