Science Based Targets

DNV helps companies set and achieve Science Based Targets (SBTs) that also drive business value and support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

What are Science Based Targets?

Based on our recent experience it’s clear that setting and achieving Science Based Targets (SBTs) is critical in helping companies contribute to the SDGs and drive business value. Specifically, targets adopted by companies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are considered “science-based” if they are in line with the level of decarbonisation required to keep global temperature increase below 2°C compared to pre- industrial temperatures, as described in the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC AR5).

The concept of SBTs can be applied to other SDG indicators and by setting and achieving SBTs you can show that you are contributing your part to the SDGs and drive business value for your company. Our services help our clients set an appropriate target and develop a suitable strategy to help you realise the full benefits.
